There is no shortage of coal in India; the government is prepared if a problem arises: MSME Minister

Verma also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set aside Rs 5 lakh crore to meet the capital needs of MSMEs.

Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, Union Minister of State for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), stated on Thursday, May 5, that there is no scarcity of coal in the country and that if such a situation occurs, the government is prepared to address it.

The minister answered to a reporter’s query about the paucity of coal, which has led to power outages across the country, while attending the National Coir Conclave in Coimbatore, according to PTI.

Meanwhile, due to insufficient coal stockpiles as a result of logistical difficulties, the Railways decided last week to cancel 753 trips involving 42 trains in order to prioritise the supply of coal rakes around the country.

The South East Central Railway (SECR) has cancelled 713 journeys through May 25th, while the Northern Railways (NR) has cancelled 40 trips through May 8th.

Passengers travelling from key coal-producing states such as Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand will be most affected by the cancellations.

However, on April 29, the Coal Ministry published a statement stating that sufficient coal is available with coal businesses.

The administration has already warned that it might not be able to provide uninterrupted power to essential facilities in the capital, such as metro trains and hospitals.
