“GST Council Meeting: New Tax Rules for Alcohol, Flour, and Molasses”
At a meeting led by Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi, the GST Council made some important decisions:
- Alcohol Tax: The GST Council decided that states will now handle the tax on Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA), which is used to make portable alcohol. However, ENA for industries will still be taxed.
- Flour Tax: If millet flour is not in a package and has at least 70% millet, there will be no tax. But if it’s packaged and labeled, there will be a 5% tax.
- Molasses Tax: The tax on molasses was reduced from 28% to 5%. This will help sugarcane farmers and lower cattle feed costs.
- GST Appellate Tribunal: The age limit for the president and members of the GST Appellate Tribunal was raised to 70 years, up from 67.
These decisions were made at the 52nd GST Council meeting, attended by Union and State officials. This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
