With effect from September 6, Petrus Johannes Theodorus Elbers (Pieter Elbers) has taken over as IndiGo’s chief executive officer, succeeding Ronojoy Dutta. As of today, September 6, 2022, “Petrus Johannes Theodorus Elbers has joined as Chief Executive Officer of the Company,” the private Indian carrier announced in an exchange filing.

Elbers began his aviation career by joining KLM at their Schiphol hub in 1992. He has since held a number of managerial posts in the Netherlands, Japan, Italy, and Greece. Since 2014, he has held the positions of president and chief executive officer of KLM Royal Dutch and a member of the Air France-KLM Group’s executive committee.

Prior to being elevated to Chief Operating Officer in 2011, Pieter Elbers was appointed Senior VP of Network and Alliances after returning to the Netherlands. Elbers holds a business economics master’s degree in addition to a bachelor’s degree in logistics management.

Elbers had stated, “What IndiGo’s employees and leadership have collectively built, since the company’s beginnings 16 years ago, is, by any standard, very amazing,” upon his appointment as the company’s new CEO in May. I feel incredibly honoured and am eager to expand on this by collaborating with the full IndiGo team. I am thrilled to join IndiGo as it moves forward on its amazing journey and continues to realise its customers’ hopes and dreams for what the airline can and will be.
